Daily Devotional

"You Are What You Eat"

There are many staggering statistics today on one of our nation's biggest problems: Diabetes. Many of us know that the best preventative measure for diabetes is a lifestyle change. This usually includes diet and exercise. However, many in our nation will never choose to make that change.

It is challenging to eat things that are healthy and good for us. Most of the time, We will go for the pizza and the soda because it tastes better and we might feel happier than when we eat healthier. Ocassionly, we might justify these foods with, I am young and I can burn it off. We know the dangers, that the way we eat can do inward damage that is undetectable and may cause other problems later on. That usually prompts us not eat pizza everyday.

But, What about the spiritual? Is everything we allow into our mind and heart a good thing? Or are some things that we intake junk? Things that are junk infiltrate into our mind and may lead to outward or secret destruction.  There is a saying that says

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

 


In Phillipians 4:8, Paul gives us a great recipe for a healthy diet.  We should be ingesting things that are pure, lovely, and of good report. These, healthy items, exude a healthy spirit, and we should strive to make healthier spritual choices as well as physical ones. Though we may be physically healthy there is nothing worse than a spirit that is not. Our truest self is what we eat spiritually.

Prayer for Today: Ask God what your Spiritual diet is and where he can help make changes.
